Government Chief Whip and Minister with special responsibility for Active Citizenship announced the membership of the newly appointed Steering Group on Active Citizenship on 22nd October 2008.

The Taskforce’s report reflects the scope and depth of the issues raised during its consultation process. It identifies profound concerns about democratic participation and local participation structures. It talks about the potential of the education system, and how the public service as a whole relates to each citizen. It also makes some very practical suggestions about how the State can support higher levels of civic engagement.
Taskforce on Active Citizenship Report Published - Government accepts Recommendations
The report of the Taskforce on Active Citizenship was launched by the Taoiseach, Mr Bertie Ahern T.D., in Government Buildings today. The Taoiseach established the Taskforce in April 2006 to advise the Government on policy measures which could be undertaken to support, encourage and promote citizenship in a changing Ireland.

The Taoiseach, Mr. Bertie Ahern, T.D., today launched the Report of the Taskforce on Active Citizenship and said that the Government is establishing an Active Citizenship Office to oversee implementation the Taskforce’s recommendations.
